Black & White

I know this video is fifteen minutes long but it most definitely worth a watch. Its serves as an arresting example of Jiri Kylian's style and fully justifies his reputation as one of the most inventive and daring choreographers on today's dance world. Much of his work is  set to musical rhythms and patterns mixed in a synthesizer to produce a layered effect in some sections; the result of this a more energetic, sometimes frenzied sound that the dancers match in a very physical dance. This dance stands as a prime example of how ballet and modern dance can intertwine to creative a masterpiece of elegant and contemporary beauty. Set to a simple and  an almost tribally raw beat the choreography is both mesmerising and haunting, it's rhythm and symmetry acting as powerful and captivating forces on the audience.

Girl Walk // All Day

Girl Walk // All Day is set to All Day, the album by mash-up musician Gregg Gillis (a.k.a. Girl Talk) creating an album-length music video of grand proportions. . The most important thing to note is that it features my dance idol/girl crush Anne Marsen. Marsen plays ‘The Girl’ in the video and her childlike naivety and facial magic add a realm of endearment to the screen. Marsen hails from New Jersey and first started dancing when she was just 2 years old. At 8, her mom brought her to Manhattan for ballet, tap and jazz classes. She subsequently attended the School of American Ballet for 6 years, developing a love-hate relationship with the form's competitive and restrictive environment. As her dance evolved, she began studying hip-hop and street jazz at various NYC studios, and found herself free styling at high school talent shows. She left college and is pursuing a career combining acting, dancing, personal choreography and music video projects. This led her, in her words, "to meet lots of awesome, amazing people to collaborate with including everyone on the Girl Walk team!!”

I Got Moves

There's only two types of people in the world
The ones that entertain and the ones that observe
Well baby, I'm a put-on-a-show kind of girl....

The dance floor may be the stage for Britney Spears but for Blau von T there is no greater stage then the bedroom; a place to let your hair down and let true sensuality take over. So when faced with the anticipating eye of your watchful lover a girl likes to be able to move her body with the confidence and prowess that she knows lies within. So here's a little sample of clips that can serve as seductive samples. For a beginners guide to tantalising performance look to the moment in Gossip Girl when Blair Waldorf shows her moves at Victor Victrola. For those of intermediate level try to Keira Knightley's lap dance in Domino and the advanced there's the lap dance scene in Death Proof,  a routine that's serve to make tour lover's blood boil. If you think you can handle the up tempo electricity that is Carolina Cerisola than with caution attempt this number for serious moves...and yeah...

I'm like a firecraker, I make it hot,

Northern Soul

"And tell me how could I let go,
Since I caught a glimpse of your immense soul.
You were dancing to northern soul,
Just one glance, and well you know..."
- Peter Doherty

I have recently returned to my first and one great love; dance. I just wish we could have been together in the dance halls of the sixties and seventies, twisting in the Wigan Casino. Northern Soul remains to this day one of the more elusive and least understood dance movement with a style of dance that's as athletic as it is soulful. A scene of raw Motown and surging funk, my kind of place. I want to go all artwank and 'loose myself in the movements'. Sweat on my back, plimsolls on my feet, moving amongst the skinheads, soul boys and Dr. Marten dandies; my wants are simple. For a glimpse into the world of Wigan Casino and northern soul check out this video.
